Check out THE CHOSEN – a multi-season show about the life of Jesus
THE CHOSEN is a series based on events surrounding the ministry years of Jesus Christ.
It follows the backstory of a few well-known characters before they first meet Jesus and interact with Him.
I was recommended this series by a colleague of mine in another state. As it helped his church in asking questions to the children and their families, I had to watch and I’m glad I did! I knew straight away it could be a series children would love! A glimpse into allowing their minds to visually see how life could be when Jesus was around! This is brilliant for multiple reasons:
- Jesus as a teacher , interacting with them , making them ask questions , making sure all of them get to be part of the conversation while not shaming the one that “hogs” the spotlight. The way He asks them to reflect and search for wisdom , rather than simple , easy answers, but letting them know that there is nothing wrong with not fully understanding scripture.
- Foreshadowing Jesus’s unending Love for His Disciples and the way almost all of them failed Him, in His Passion and fully understanding His Message.
- The way Jesus talks to these “insignificant” village children . What will they be to History ? What will they amount to in the eyes of Kings , Historians and Emperors? Nothing. But to the Lord, they are the most precious creatures to have lived.
The historical costumes, scenery and props transport you to biblical times and seem authentic. The talented cast of characters reel you in to their stories and make you feel like you are walking alongside them as they relate to one another.
The Chosen takes liberties with artistic imagination and dialogue to explain the backstory of some of the characters which helps add to the significance of the biblical events even though it’s fictitious. These backstories reveal their broken or self-centered lives before they met Jesus and show how much they were transformed by Him. Like when Mary Magdalene tells Nicodemus about Jesus delivering her from demons: “I was one way and now I am completely different, and the thing that happened in between was Him.” The series provides a fresh perspective on familiar biblical characters and presents an inspiring yet entertaining story.
Some episodes of The Chosen warrant caution for younger children. However, a strong, faithful Christian message lies at the program’s heart, which takes seriously the life and miracles of Jesus.
Great series! It could definitely help in bible studies, digging deeper into scripture as well as a good old family movie that will be enjoyed by all! By the way did I mention, IT IS ALL FREE! Download the app and its yours, to watch! But you can also find clips on Youtube.
