Back to Youth

With school returning for 2021, Youth groups also begin to gather again!

In preparation for another year of gathering in the midst of COVID and the ever changing restrictions, here are some games and activities that can be used for your Youth group.

Online:

Play it on a Zoom Call or using any other video conference facility. It works as long as you can see individual participants on the call. You’ll also want to take screenshots so you can share the pictures of this fun activity for later.

The essence of Charades is pantomimes: you must act out a word or phrase without speaking or making sound effects. This is usually done in person, but it can also be done in an online video meeting.

  • Bible Trivia

Trivia on the Bible. Leader has trivia questions and participants get a point when they answer correctly. Winner is the one with the most points at the end of the game

This is a fun and free multiplayer drawing guessing game! One game consists of a few rounds in which every round someone has to draw their chosen word and others have to guess it to gain points! The person with the most points at the end of game will then be crowned as the winner!

Face-to-face:

  • Human Tic-Tac-Toe

Set up 9 “spots” in the design of tic-tac-toe and divide the participants into 2 groups of Xs and Os. Start playing

  • Bible Jeopardy

Design a layout like the Jeopardy tv show, on a whiteboard or on butchers paper. The answers should be biblical references

  • Blind Faith Toss

Get a bag of mini marshmallows, some plastic cups and bandanas for blindfolding. Have teams of 2 with one person laying on the floor with a plastic up on their forehead. The other teammate is standing with a blindfold on trying to get marshmallows in the cup. The players get 2 minutes and then see who wins

  • Don’t Break the Streamers

Tape crepe streamers crossing a hallway. Tape them low and high and some on a diagonal. Participants have to make their way down the hall without tearing any down.

Themed Nights:

These can be done face-to-face or online!

  • Movie Night

Movies are most fun when you have company to enjoy them with, and a movie night is a simple fun thing to do

  • Music Night

Have a night themed around music, with the option to dress up as different music and curate playlist of everyone’s favourite songs!

  • MasterChef Night

Get the youth group into teams and give them a cooking challenge for the night

With the beginning of a New Year it might also be worthwhile, if it isn’t something already done, to have an ongoing activity or project for your Youth group. This helps give the group a little continuity and see the week to week progress made.

Some ideas for ongoing activities:

  • Prayer Wall
  • Verse of the Week
  • Random Acts of Kindness Wall

Whatever you have planned for this year, whether taken from some of these ideas or some of your own, remember to keep in mind that all games and activities are COVID safe for all those participating!
