Physical Isolation doesn’t have to mean social isolation – 10 ideas for Youth Groups

The stopping of youth groups on a Friday night has sent youth leaders every where into a spin, but it doesn’t need to. There are a whole bunch of online options where you can talk in groups that give you live access to each other. Zoom, Skype, Facebook Messenger, Google Hangouts, Snapchat, Viber and WhatsApp. Add to this a couple of ideas we have come up with of things to do together from your place!

  1. Games Online – Pick a game and all play it together. Minecraft has been one of the opitions we have heard about that youth groups have already started with. What games are you playing?
  2. Watch parties on Facebook or Twitch – Your very own gogglebox session!
  3. Cooking Night – either everyone cooks the same recipe together or a ready steady cook night where they pick 4 ingredients from their kitchen and they have to cook something with it.
  4. Fancy dress party – What costumes have you got or what could you make from what you have. This could also be a murder mystery night or a trivia night.
  5. Book club – review an article, or a chapter of a book, or online comic.
  6. Have an online sports night – either play something like FIFA together or set about a series of physical challenges that they can time compete on.
  7. Origami Night – This could be any type of art / craft challenge you could mail out what people need the week before, or they have to use what they find around the house.
  8. Click it or it didn’t happen – Set a bunch of challenges for the week and they have to photograph them.
  9. Spreading the light – How can the youth group spread God’s light and hope into the community from where they are? Could they write messages in chalk on their footpath?
  10. Check into Calm Down Pulse’s online show with Molk and Bradon!

Remember it is not what you do that matters but is about connecting together. Looking after and sharing God’s love with each other, reminding each other that Jesus is in the midst of this too and exploring how you can share that with others who might need the help.. What you do is merely the tool to make it happen.

So shout out and let us know what tools you are using and what have you done to stay connected! Let’s share the wisdom around!
