UME All-In Road Trip to the Illawarra
On the 13th -15th March 2020, The Pulse team had the pleasure of joining our Uniting Mission and Education (UME) colleagues to facilitate a Discipleship Weekend for the Illawarra Presbytery.
It was a fruitful weekend where we were blessed to have met people of all ages. The weekend began for the Pulse team with hanging out with some awesome youth on Friday night from Corrimal & Wollongong Mission. Getting to engage with them know them games, team building activities and ending the night off with a bible story session over pizza.
Saturday started with an intentional devotion by UTC Principle Peter Walker. A great reminder of how Jesus has to be at the centre of everything and our focus point. The rest of the day, the UME and PULSE teams lead workshops encouraging and challenging folks to look into their contexts and see how we may continue to build the mission of God. Through growing young with PULSE, knowing your Church/Community with Mission Enablement, as well a workshop of knowing MSM and Fresh expressions.
On the last day of gatherings the UME team dispersed out and preached or took part in eight (8) different congregations within the presbytery that morning. It was great, to be able to have worship within these congregations as we where able to take pockets of hope with our Synod. The PULSE team rounded it off with the Sunday Visits with Rev Karen Mitchell Lambert leading a Youth, Young adults and Family Service in the evening.
As we come back from that weekend, we know that it is a privilege to be amongst congregations outside of Sydney. We learnt and shared together, plenty of values of hope and love as well as strengthen relationships between Synod and this Presbytery. Encouraged for future engagements and ways we can move forward together with Jesus in the centre.
Joyce Tangi is the Field Officer (South), and responsible for children and families ministry as a part of the PULSE team.
